New Owner For Nabisco

Fair Lawn’s biggest employer is getting a new owner, Philip Morris’s Kraft Food Divisions.  Ironically, it was only a year ago that Nabisco was split off from another tobacco giant, RJR Tobacco.

Broadway Improvements

The Broadway Advisory Committee's final recommendations include increasing the number of parking spaces and improving the appeal of the street.  Keith Brown, a member of the Committee since its inception in the Fall of 1999, told Fair Lawn News that too many Broadway stores are dirty or in need of repair.  However, Mr. Brown said that Warren Point School is now being spruced up and new garbage cans and banners have been ordered.

Elks Out, Synagogue In

After many years in Fair Lawn, the Elks are selling their lodge at 30-02 Fair Lawn Avenue.  Late last year, the Fair Lawn members moved into the Elmwood Park lodge.  Like other fraternal organizations in the nation, membership has been steadily declining.  Bris Avrohom (an orthodox synagogue serving mostly Russian Jews) will be purchasing the building.  The synagogue currently operates out of a modest storefront near the Radburn train station.

DVDs At The Library

Once upon a time, Fair Lawn's library just had reading materials.  Now its collection of 5,000 movies for adults and children has been supplemented with 50 movies on DVD (digital video disk).  DVDs have greater resolution than a CD or VHS tape, which is why they are becoming increasingly popular for home entertainment systems and personal computers.
