Letters to the Editor

High School

Have you seen the September issue of New Jersey Magazine? It has a list of the 75 best High Schools in NJ. Fair Lawn has dropped off the list. I wonder why. What has changed for the worse?

Dave Kaszerman

Forum For Residents

Thanks to the editor for the chance to use this new format. Since the demise of the former site of commentary on Fair Lawn's website, there has been a void for people to express themselves about matters that are close to them. I hope that all contributors will take time to consider their comments so that this new format is not "closed down" like the last one. Freedom of expression is a wonderful "right" that should not be abused. I wish the best of luck to the editor.

Opinion of Pools

Now that we have almost a full season of "The New Pools", what do you think of them? My opinions are:  the sand is great, it sure beats the dirt we had before, the water quality is as good as the last two years, the ping- pong and pool tables are OK.  I guess at least they keep the kids out of the water. That's the plus side.

Now the other, the town council decided that the diving boards were too dangerous so they ripped them out and put a quad slide of which the lifeguard in charge of it can allow only two slides to be used at once, the boards never needed a life guard at the top at all times these things are so much better and safer that no life guard no slide. They seem closed more then open which is okay because even the kids get bored with them and two times down seem like enough for us old kids. When the slides are closed they are "blocked off" by the honor system.

They came up with a fun day, consisting of hitting golf balls over the water and at the raft. Nobody showed up except the Borough Manager, so it was canceled!   But the library still had fliers a week later.

As for the trailers,  too bad the council wasn't the Board of Education six years ago. Floyd came though and caused a 200 year flood which destroyed the buildings at the pool, but somehow the Parks Department building and the middle school were spared, the Council rushed out and bought construction trailers to replace the destroyed buildings. The trailers didn't arrive until the end of August so the destroyed buildings were able to be used for the 3 month season.  The story I hear is that the wheels are going to be left on.  In case of another storm they will be disconnected and hauled to higher ground.

Adult School

What an informative news letter!    I was wondering if you can direct me to the right person to discuss teaching opportunities in the Fair Lawn Adult School?   Thanks and lots of luck!
