Cable Station Flooded

On Labor Day, Fair Lawn Creative Cable (Channel 66) lost 11 years worth of videotapes -- a priceless collection of interviews, parades, meetings and celebrations.

Candice Vivino, president of the public access station, said watching Fair Lawn Avenue become a river on Labor Day was unbelievable. Water streamed down Borough Hall’s parking lot, filled up the window well and pushed through the window into the TV station station’s basement office.

Of the station’s collection of 700 videotapes, only 150 could be saved. They were damaged from the water as well as the leaves, pebbles, gravel, glass, bark and dirt that adhered to the equipment, disks, compact disks and video tapes.

The station was knocked off the air temporarily due to the damage of computers and videotape machines.

The Borough plans on raising the curb and redirecting the drainage flow to prevent a reoccurrence. Ms. Vivino said that the station, thanks to its insurance coverage, will be replacing and repairing its equipment, but it will be a slow process.
