2000 Budget

The Borough Council's unanimously adopted the Borough's budget with a number of new programs including:  more police patrols, new bicycle path, and expanded Senior Center hours.

Approximately 60% of the funds for the $26.6 million budget will be collected from local real estate taxes.  The rest will come from grants, permits, licenses and other fees.  Taxes on the average home will increase approximately $50 per year.

Pools Are Looking Better

If you haven't been to Memorial Pool in a while, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the improvements.  Mayor Ganz and the other Borough Council members recently demonstrated how the new high quality sand enhances the pool. They placed two different types of sand into glasses. The new sand sank to the bottom, while the old type of sand clouded up the water.  Fair Lawn also operates a second public pool, Walsh Pool, which got a new water slide this Summer.

High Speed Internet Available

Cable modems are not yet available in Fair Lawn, but a number of telephone service providers are now offering digital subscriber lines (DSL) for as low as $40 per month.  With a DSL modem you can access Web pages more than ten times faster than a regular 56k modem.  Another benefit is that you can talk on the phone and surf the Web, at the same time.  Check out www.dslreports.com for information on the availability of DSL on your street (it is very location sensitive) and the ratings of the various DSL services.

Fair Lawn's Water Passes Tests
