Rothman
and Tedeschi After the election, Fair Lawn News asked the only two
Fair Lawn residents who were on the ballot this year, Congressman Rothman
and former Fair Lawn Mayor Joe Tedeschi, about their Congressional
race. See Election Results Congressman Rothman said he was honored to return to
the U.S. House of Representatives for a third term. When asked about
issues important to Fair Lawn residents, he said that
"people in Fair Lawn are concerned with both local and national
issues. Some of the national issues I discussed with people in Fair Lawn
are securing a voluntary prescription drug benefit for all seniors under
Medicare, passing a Patient's Bill of Rights, and ensuring a quality
education for all our children." Mr. Tedeschi said that he loved running and talking
with people throughout the district, which includes about 36 towns from Jersey City to Fair Lawn.
He said voters talked about various local issues, including: Teterboro
Airport, the proposed Meadowlands megamall, and transportation. The most important national issues,
mentioned by Fair Lawn residents, were Medicare and Social Security
as well as campaign finance reform and education. Mr. Tedeschi is proud of the campaign he ran. He said
that both he and Congressman Rothman ran a campaign that focused on issues
and philosophies. They didn't bad mouth or say untruths about each other.
Asked about the results, Mr. Tedeschi said that he thought the Democrats
ran an outstanding, well organized campaign. Congressman Rothman said his campaign "focused on the issues, such as HMO reform, education, and continuing to be
a strong advocate for our local interests". He said that "Fair
Lawn wants someone who will fight for our local interests to give local
communities a voice to control train noise; improve our transportation
system and to continue to clean up and preserve our environment." Tell us what you think. Send an e-
