Exemptions:  Find out how to get a temporary exemption from the ban on overnight parking.

Keep It Banned

Please continue and  enforce the overnight parking ban.   It enhances safety. And also discourages home owners to leave their vehicles parked in the streets all day. Fair Lawn's beauty is marked by the wide, unencumbered roads.

Parking Interferes with Snow Removal

Everyone who thinks we should allow overnight parking, would scream real loud in the winter when we can't plow the streets because there are cars parked overnight.

Be Flexible

I still believe in the ban on overnight parking in Fair Lawn. However, I think that it would be unrealistic to ban all parking irregardless of need. There are indeed some cases that warrant an exemption. These cases should be approached with some logic and understanding. For the ban to truly work with these special exceptions, it still must be closely monitored, otherwise abuse will set in and the problem grows dramatically.

Allow Exemptions

I agree with fellow residents in that today's lifestyle mandates more parking. I feel the apartment complexes should have an exemption of some kind due to the management of those complexes not having enough space or perhaps the government could mandate additional parking in those complexes.  Thank you

Allow Exceptions

I think there should be exceptions to the overnight parking rule when there is evidence there is a hardship..

Some of us have houses that were built 80+ years ago,  where the driveway cannot be widened and it is a problem to park all the cars we have.  These are cases where permission should be granted to permit overnight parking!!   This issue should be listened to on a  case by case basis.  Thank you

N. Kaliner

Use Stickers

How about using residential parking stickers like other towns do?

Allow Overnight Parking

I agree that the overnight parking restriction should be lifted. I believe that every car that is registered to a Fair Lawn resident should be required to have a sticker in it showing that it belongs to a resident.  This will aid police in case of a problem in an area by quickly identifying which cars belong there.  My family consists of my parent, myself and my sister and we each have our own cars. Our driveway was only able to accommodate 2 cars.  We had to build a paved area over part of our front lawn to make room for my car. How do you think that looks???  My sister had to use a neighbors driveway and make sure her car was pulled out at a certain time every morning.  My sister has since moved out and has plenty of parking where she is now.  But I really wonder what we would have done if there were three children in this family.

Allow Overnight Parking With Stickers

I believe it is OK to allow overnight parking.  The police will get to recognize the same cars week after week especially with a sticker.  Some houses just don't have the space

The Ban is Archaic

The Over-Nite Parking Ban is an archaic law that dates back to The Dark Ages before the middle of the last century in the last millennium! This was a period of time when families had one car, one dog, a canary and 2.6 children, who used their bikes to get from one point to another including school. Mommy, IF she drove took Daddy to the bus or train station and then had the use of the family car during the day. Each house had a driveway if not a garage for the car, even the apartments had parking provided. Radburn, although, had it's own unique system.

Times have changed and this is the 21st century, so maybe Fair Lawn should move out of the old twentieth century limits and on to Y2K. Why was the condo guy allowed to, knock down the garages, take away parking spaces, build more condos and let the borough figure out where his people, new and old, can park?

Picture the town allowing us to build an apartment where our driveway is! We CAN park on the street legally, every third night. If you have 3 cars, simply call in car 1 for permission, car 2 parks in the driveway and car 3 on the lawn, so much for the aesthetics and character of FL, since you are allowed to park each car only once every third night you call in a different car each night. The calls are not taken by the Police Department but by a private business out of town, you would think that since we have people at the desk all night they could handle it so the town could save money by not paying for an out of town service. If you have a fourth car, clean out your garage and get a permit to erect a shed, but not in Radburn.

When did the street cleaners start working nights and how do they clean under the cars that where granted permission to park? The PBA sells donations to residents for which we receive a sticker for each car to be put in the rear window so that the police can identify the car as to belonging to a FL resident. I never understood why the ban is only in effect from 2am to 5am, are these the only hours that burglars work? When a car is ticketed for being on the street illegally and does not have a resident sticker, is the area searched for undesirables?
