George Frey     1. Do any of your children attend (or have they attended Fair Lawn public schools)? Four children: 15, 13, 9 and 7. One is in high school, one at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and two are at Milnes.   2. Professional Background Superintendent of the Fair Lawn Recreation Department.    3. Do you think Fair Lawn Schools are better than they were a few years ago? Fair Lawn is one of the pioneers in the area (for example in technology and foreign languages). Many teachers want to come here. By leaps and bounds, we are totally moving in right direction.     4. What issues does the Board of Education need to focus on? School growth. The buildings were built back in the 1950s and early 60s. It was a small community then, no one thought 30 years ahead. The schools are tight. We are studying putting on new wings. We are not rushing; we hired a consultant to do demographics and we are looking to see if there is any wasted space. We are checking all avenues before the next steps. We are studying all schools and the principals are giving information to the administration on their needs.    5. Are you pleased with recent results of standardized test scores? Fair Lawn is up there with other districts. Tests are a good barometer but I don’t weigh them too heavily. There are good and bad test takers.    6. What would you like to accomplish? Continue to get best education for our students. I want to make sure common sense is continued and that teachers, kids and non-parents are well represented.     7. What should the priorities be for fixing and expanding buildings and facilities? Classroom space.      8. Are the schools preparing students for the new economy? Yes. My oldest daughter tells us what’s going on and she’s learning everything.      9. Anything else you would like to say? I want to continue volunteering. Being involved with kids is the most important way for me to help the town. I am concerned about the community. Having grown up here, I want to enrich the community. To do that, I need to enrich kids.
