February - March 2003 Edition

Senior Center Happenings

By Karin Hodos, Assistant Director at Fair Lawn Senior Center

DRAMA CLUB FOR SENIORS: In accordance with the request of the participants at the Fair Lawn Senior Center to incorporate new and exciting programs, we are pleased to announce the creation of a unique group, the Drama Club. Kaye Lampe, a volunteer with a background in professional drama, will dedicate her time for a new Drama Club. There is no experience necessary - just commitment & enthusiasm! The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13th, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Participants can sign up in the office (name and phone number) if you are interested or stop by the Senior Center at 11-05 Gardiner Road, Fair Lawn for a visit.

SENIORS SEE "SQUEAKY CLEAN" PERFORMANCE: On Friday, February 28th, 2003 at 10:30 am, the Fair Lawn Senior Center has engaged a very unique and dynamic duo, husband and wife team, who will knock your socks off in a medley of some of your favorite 50's and 60's music! Not only will you enjoy their distinct vocalizations, but also you will be very impressed by their ease in harmonizing these songs. In addition, this group, aka "Squeaky Clean" will offer you lots of interesting bits of trivia and bring to your attention how significant that period of music was at that time in history. Sign up for this upbeat performance with June or Karin by dropping in at the Fair Lawn Senior Center, or by calling (201) 796-1191. The cost will be $4 per person for senior citizens (age 60+) and $5 for all other guests, and must be prepaid by February 26, 2003. Light refreshments will be served.

MYRTLE BEACH EXCURSION: Fair Lawn Senior Center is planning a six-day/5-night excursion to Myrtle Beach, SC from Sunday, March 30th through Friday, April 4th, 2003. Departure will be at 7 am, from the Senior Parking Lot, opposite the Borough Hall and will return at 7 pm. FLSC FLEA MARKET: The Fair Lawn Senior Center, located at the corner of 11th Street and Gardiner Road, will be having their Annual Spring Craft Fair & Flea Market on Saturday, March 22, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The Center's 5th annual event will take place indoors, rain or shine. All new and "gently used" items are welcome and greatly appreciated as donations and can be dropped off at the Center after calling ahead. Interested vendors can reserve space for $25 a table (5' x 3') by calling the Center at (201) 796-1191 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

SENIORS TO SEE "DAMES AT SEA": Fair Lawn Senior Center is planning a trip to the Helen Hayes Theatre Company to see a musical gem, "Dames At Sea" on Wednesday, April 30th, 2003. The show is thoroughly wrapped in the era of the '30's and Busby Berkeley musicals - full of wonderful comedy, sultry torch songs and show-stopping tap dancing. This is the story of Ruby, a country girl from Utah, who arrives in New York to get a job as a chorus girl and ends up the star of the show! But when the theater is demolished, they vow "the show must go on" and it does, on the deck of a battleship! The cost is $64 per person and includes motorcoach transportation, great orchestra seats, buffet lunch at J.F. Keane's in Pearl River, NY and all gratuities. Departure is at 11:00 am, from the Senior Parking Lot, opposite the Borough Hall and will return at 5 pm. Money is due no later than March 12th, 2003 but reserve your seats now!! Please contact the Fair Lawn Senior Center at (201) 796-1191 for more information or reservations.
