Police Blotter

P.O. Mark Wyka responded a burglar alarm at a store on Maple Ave. Upon his arrival, Wyka noticed a wet footprint on the front door as if someone had tried to kick the glass out of the front door. However the glass had not been broken.

A resident of Morlot Ave reported that she observed a man steal a UPS package from her from porch. The man is described as a Hispanic male in his 30's, approx 5'10 tall with a medium build, short hair and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket with a round patch on the shoulder and dark pants. The vehicle was a newer 4 door white car, possibly a Toyota.

A customer at Shop Rite supermarket reported that another patron had intentionally pushed a shopping cart into her.

The manager of Amersuites Hotel on Broadway reported that a room had been damaged by an unruly guest.

A gas station on Wagaraw Rd reported that a customer left without paying for $5 worth of gas.

A fire was reported on Rys Terrace. The resident apparently spread a spark from a candle to a bed when she was attempting to blow out the candle. The Fair Lawn Fire Dept. responded and extinguished the fire. The bed and a wall were damaged.

Marina Belkina, 42 of Fair Lawn was charged with shoplifting after she was allegedly observed by a security officer concealing merchandise in her pocketbook and attempting to leave the store. Belkina was arrested by P.O. Paul Scott and released on her own recognizance after processing pending an appearance in Fair Lawn Municipal Court on January 8,2003 at 7 p.m.

A vending machine located on Broadway was broken into by using a prying instrument. An undetermined amount of cash in coins were taken.

P.O. James Krizek ,Sgt. Carmine Moscatello, P.O. Hiram Taylor, P.O. Joseph Mecionis and P.O. Mark Wyka were called to the scene of a fight on 17th St. The fight was broken up by bystanders prior to the arrival of the police, however two 17 year old juveniles were taken into custody after police determined that they were intoxicated. Both juveniles were released to their parents at Headquarters and will be charged in Family Court with Disorderly Conduct.

CVS Pharmacy ,29-00 Broadway reported that they suspected a that a shoplifter had stolen film. The suspect is described as a black male,25 to 30 years old wearing a navy blue jacket with the words "South Pole" on the back of it.

Two male juveniles ages 16 and 14 were taken into custody by P.O. Lonnie Mergler and P.O. Thomas Check after they were allegedly observed shoplifting by a store owner on River Rd. Both juveniles were released to their parents.

P.O. Mary Ann Collura was called to the scene of a local business on Maple Ave where she encountered an intoxicated 14 year old juvenile. The youth was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A motorist reported that someone had smashed his driver's side window sometime between 1 a.m. on December 28th and 10 a.m. on December 29th in a parking lot located at 12-06 River Road.

A resident of 17th St reported that someone had vandalized a plastic snowman on his lawn sometime between 11 p.m. on December 20th and noon on December 21st.

A bicyclist reported that he was forced off his bicycle on Maple Ave by two black males, one white male and a Hispanic male. One of the suspects took the bicycle and fled the scene northbound on Maple Ave.

P.O. Paul Scott responded to a burglar alarm at a liquor store on Maple Ave. Upon his arrival, he noticed that the front door had been smashed and that the cash register was missing. Det. John Ietto is investigating.

A motorist alleged that a thirteen year old juvenile had thrown an ice ball at her car causing damage to it.

Resident on Wilson st. reported somebody threw eggs at his house.

A resident of 36th street reported that his vehicle had been sprayed with mustard.

Krauszers reported that a white male in his late 20's, with brown hair, wearing a green jacket stole a $55.00 carton of Cigarettes. The man was last seen fleeing the scene in a red, four door, 2000, Saturn.

A motorist reported that he was punched in the head by another motorist at a gas station located on the corner of Lincoln Ave. and Wagaraw Rd.

A security manager for a corporation reports a physical threat was made telephonically against the CEO of said corporation by Fair Lawn resident.

A Fair Lawn Ave. businessman reported theft of cash from office.

A motorist reported the headlamps stolen from a 2002 Nissan Maxima parked in the lot of the Pediatric Therapy Center, 29-01 Berkshire Road. A male wearing a black jacket and hat who left the scene in a black 4 door sedan is being sought for questioning.

A motorist reported his automobile stolen, a 1999 Volkswagen from the rear lot of 22-15 Broadway. The Newark Police Department advised that they had recovered the car.

A resident reported that an acquaintance had assaulted him in the parking lot of a local tavern.

P.O. James Corcoran arrested Bryone L. Farber, 31, of Hawthorne for DWI after Corcoran observed him sleeping in his vehicle with the engine running on Maple Ave. Farber was released on his own recognizance to a responsible person and is due to appear in Fair Lawn Muncipal Court.

P.O. Paul Scott arrested Abel Becerra, 31 of Bogota for DWI. Scott had responded to the area of 35th St and Broadway on a report of a car traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.Scott located the vehicle at Rosalie St and 30th St. Becerra was released on his own recognizance with a court appearance date. He also received an additional summons for driving without a seat belt.

An attempted burglary was reported on Heights Avenue. An unknown person had kicked out a lower panel of the rear storm door. No entry was gained.

The theft of headlamps from a 2002 Nissan Maxima automobile was reported. Police are seeking a male wearing a black jacket and hat, seen leaving the scene in a black 4 door sedan, unknown model.

Officers Joseph Dawicki and Jeffrey Blumenfeld responded to an alarm at Krauser's Food Store, 16-15 River Road. Upon arrival they discovered that the window from the front door had been smashed and that cash and other merchandise had been removed from the store. Police are seeking a man believed to be Hispanic wearing a dark hooded windbreaker jacket for questioning. Det. John Ietto is investigating.

Jovanny Navarro, 21 of Fair Lawn and Eda Ayvaz,20 of Fair Lawn were arrested by Officer James Corcoran. Navarro was charged with using a controlled dangerous substance. Ayvaz was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, using a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrests were made after Corcoran originally stopped the couple because Navarro matched the description of a man the police were seeking to question in connection with a burglary at Krauser's Food Store the previous night. Both parties were released on their own recognizance after processing.

Gilberth C. Blanco, 25 of Paterson, was arrested for one count of Shoplifting by P.O. Robert Belbol after a security officer for Shop Rite Supermarket allegedly observed him conceal a bottle of vitamins on his person and attempt to leave the store. Blanco was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.

Edwin Arroyo of Paterson was charged with shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was observed concealing merchandise on his person and attempting to leave the store by a security officer for Shop Rite Supermarket. P.O. Donald Mac Isaac and P.O. Gerard Graziano responded and arrested Arroyo. A search of Arroyo allegedly uncovered a glass pipe commonly used to ingest crack cocaine. Arroyo was released on his own recognizance after processing on the current charges. However he was committed to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $5000 with 10% option once it was discovered that he had an active warrant for his arrest from the Fair Lawn Municipal Court on Forgery and Theft charges.

Deidore J. Bowe, 45 of Fair Lawn was charged by P.O. Brian Metzler with DWI after she was observed driving erractically after a slow speed pursuit from Stewart Place onto Sperber Road/ Stelton Terr to Jerome Place.Bowe was also charged with Failure to Wear a seatbelt, Failure to notify DMV of change of address, operating an unregistered vehicle, Failure to Obey a Police Officer, Improper parking and failure to comply with Directions

Officer James Corcoran charged Krystian Igielski, 19 of Clifton with possession of alcohol while under the legal drinking age. Corcoran had stopped Iglielski while she was operating an automobile on Broadway by 26th St. for a motor vehicle violation and observed a 12 pack of beer in the car. Igielski was released on her own recognizance after processing and is due to appear in Fair Lawn Municipal Court. A seventeen-year-old juvenile passenger who was a passenger in the car was released to her mother.

A resident of Linden Lane reported a purse snatch. The resident reported that she was entering her front door when she felt a tug on her purse and she fell backwards onto the steps. The purse had contained $35 cash and various personal documents. Det. Sgt. Michael Messina is investigating.

An automobile dealer on Maple Ave reported the theft of an automobile from their parking lot. The automobile had been left running and unattended for approximately 2 minutes.

A resident of Campbell Road reports her house was hit by eggs.

A fire was reported next to the building at 52 Harristown Road. Some hay and pallets next to the building had caught on fire. The Fair Lawn Fire Dept. responded and extinguished the fire.There was no damage to the building. Cause of the fire is unknown.

Ernest Buffalino, 46, homeless was arrested after police learned of an outstanding warrant for his arrest with $750 bail. Officer Jeffrey Blumenfeld originally encountered Buffalino after responding to a report of a suspicious person on 3rd St. near Fair Lawn Ave.

A resident reported that his credit card had been used without authorization in Florida.

A 17-year old student at Fair Lawn High School alleged that another 17-year old student had punched him in the face.

A 16-year old reported receiving a threat over the Internet from another 17-year old whom attends Fair Lawn High School with him.

A burglary was reported on Sperber Road, someone entered the apartment through a bedroom window. Toys and jewelry were taken.

A resident reported that someone had stolen her identity and used to open a cell phone account. Over $300 had been charged to the account.

A resident of Rutger's Terrace reported that someone had poured mustard and catsup over his vehicle sometime during the night.

A motorist reported that a passenger in another vehicle assaulted him at Fair Lawn Ave. and River Rd. during a traffic dispute. The accused allegedly punched the victim in the head. Police are seeking a black 1984 Ford F-250 Pickup Truck. The accused is described as a white male 6 feet tall with light colored buzz cut hair.P.O. Brian Metzler is investigating.

A shoplifting was reported at CVS Pharmacy on Fair Lawn Ave. The suspect was observed by an employee concealing merchandise. He fled south on Plaza Road. He is described as a white male approxiamately 35 years old, 5'6 tall with a thin build wearing a blue jacket, blue ski cap and jeans.P.O. Lonnie Mergler is investigating.

An employee of the Land and Sea Restaurant on Fair Lawn Ave. reported that three customers returned to the window of the restaurant after leaving and invited him to come outside while brandishing a knife. The suspects were described as three white males all wearing blue ski jackets with red, white and blue skullcaps. They were last seen east on Fair Lawn Ave.

Garfield Dixon, 33 of Paterson was arrested during a motor vehicle stop at Broadway and Hartley Place by P.O. James Corcoran once Corcoran discovered there were active warrants for his arrest from Paterson, N.J. and South Brunswick, NJ. Dixon was released with several motor vehicle summonses after posting $651 bail.

A gas station on Maple Ave reported that a customer left without paying. The suspect was described as an unshaven white male driving a 1996 Chrysler

A resident reported that his vehicle was broken into in the St. Anne's R.C. Church parking lot while he was inside attending services. On December 19th between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m.Several articles were discovered missing from the car.

A company on Rt. 208 reported three laptop computers stolen from an office

A resident of Fairclough Place reported that someone had attempted to pry the lock on her rear door with a screwdriver or other similar device. No entry was gained
