The Fair Lawn Senior Center is always adding and improving programs to their already fulfilling lineup of activities.  The following is a synopsis of new and ongoing events:

WOOD CARVING CLASS:  Like the outdoors? Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 1:30 pm is the second meeting of the Wood Carving class, led by volunteer Herman Neagreann. This program will involve several field trips to local parks in order to find your own pieces of wood for your projects, followed by hands-on instruction.   Until further notice, this program will be once a month.

DRAMA CLUB:  Our Drama Club leader, Kay Lampe, a volunteer with a background in professional drama, has decided to take on the task of organizing our very first one-act play.  After choosing a play and its cast of characters, we hope to start rehearsals soon and be able to put on a show for our friends and family members, as well as the community at large.  The first meeting will be held Thursday, June 26 at 1:30 pm and will continue on alternating Thursday afternoons.  There is no experience necessary, just commitment and enthusiasm!! Her goal is to have the group perform a one-act play by the end of 2003!!

IMPROV TROUPE:  Another new addition to our expanding Theater Arts schedule is “Falling Down Funny,” our senior Improv troupe.  For those who don’t know, Improv – short for improvisation, is the art of ad libs.  We have amusing warm ups, followed by humorous games and comical entertainment created and enjoyed by everyone.  Their next meeting, run by funny gal herself, Karin Hodos, Assistant Director of the Senior Center, will be held Thursday, June 19 at 1:30 pm.  Keep watching our calendar for alternate Thursday dates.  This class is very informal and ever-changing...so expect the unexpected!  Join us for “spur-of-the-moment” fun ~ we are always seeking new members!!

Art of Scrapbooking:  This excellent monthly workshop continues on the third Thursday of the month @ 1 pm, next ones: June 19, July 17, August 21, and September 18.

SPELLING BEE:  Practice sessions for our Spelling Bees have been planned through the end of summer one Friday every month @ 1, next ones: June 27 at 10:30 am hosting Midland Park Seniors too!

BOCCE:  Now that spring has sprung, our Bocce court is just waiting for its players...feel free to reserve your time now!!

For any information about the Senior Center, feel free to call (201) 796-1191 Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm.
