Recent Police Reports -- The Unusual Ones

  1. Shop Rite Supermarket reported that a customer had drank a bottle of iced tea without paying for it and then let her child urinate in the bottle before placing it back on the shelf. The woman was ejected from the store by the store manager and barred from returning to the store. No formal charges were filed at this time.

  2. P.O. Brian La Rosa spotted two individuals loading a pickup truck with scrap metal that they were taking from the side of a gas station on Broadway and stopped them for questioning. A call to the owner's home revealed that he was familiar with the men, but that they had no permission to take the metal. The men were required by P.O. LaRosa to put the metal back and were released at the scene. The owner was given the option of signing a complaint.

  3. A motorist from Hawthorne reported that a truck had cut her off several times on Rt. 208 and then forced her to the side of the road, the truck then allegedly attempted to ram her and then followed her down Maple Ave. The victim was referred to the Municipal Court for prosecution.

  4. A resident reported that he received a phone call stating that he had won $50,000. The caller then proceeded to ask for personal information such as his mother's maiden name, bank account number and social security number which he provided. It was later discovered by the resident that there was almost $150 missing from his bank account that had been drawn out by an unknown company.

  5. Officer Louis Failla arrested Tina Scrimiento, 24 of 0-07 Midland Ave. in Fair Lawn with the assistance of Officer Paul Scott for Refusing to Obey the Lawful Order of a Police Officer. Police had originally been called to her residence for a report of dispute. Scrimiento is alleged to have attempted to physically stop another person from leaving the residence despite several warnings from the officers to allow him to leave.Scrimiento was released on her own recognizance pending an appearance in Fair Lawn Municipal Court.

  6. 8 glass windows on an office building on Rt. 208 was broken apparently by throwing steel ball bearings at them sometime between 4 p.m. and 9 a.m.

  7. A resident of Lyncrest Ave. reported the theft of two video games from his home.

  8. A resident of Radburn Road reported that two of her garbage cans that had been placed at the end of her driveway had been destroyed.

  9. An open door was reported at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center, 10-10 Norma Ave. The surrounding area was briefly closed down while the Center was checked in order to ensure homicide suspects were not hiding inside. Investigation revealed that the door was simply left unlocked and that there was no evidence of unlawful entry.

  10. A store on Broadway reported that bakery goods were stolen over night from in front of the store.

  11. A resident of Edward St. reported that her Jacuzzi was damaged by someone who had thrown rocks at it.

  12. A resident of the Radburn section of Fair Lawn Avenue reported finding a hole in the window of his apartment immediately after hearing a gun going off. Paint was found on the window indicating that it most likely was caused by a paint gun.

  13. An assault that occurred between two teenage girls at Friendly’s Restaurant, 12-06 River Rd. was reported. The matter was referred to Juvenile Officer, Det. Derek Bastinck for further action.

  14. The Fair Lawn Fire Department responded to Brunswick Lanes, 22-22 Maple Ave on a report of an odor of smoke. Upon their arrival they determined that a ballast from a fluorescent light had burnt out and removed the ballast.

  15. Taihibi Ladson, 24 of Paterson was arrested by P.O. Ian Manelis for giving false information to a law enforcement officer. Manelis had stopped Ladson on 12th St. for a motor vehicle violation. When he failed to produce a driver’s license, Officer Manelis asked him his name. In response, he gave a false name. Ladson was released on his own recognizance after processing pending an appearance in Fair Lawn Municipal Court.
