Two fall trips have been introduced at the Fair Lawn Senior Center:
"New Hope, PA & Ivyland Railroad" and "Medieval
Times." Both trips leave from the Senior Parking lot (opposite
the Municipal Bldg.) and include transportation, lunch, and driver's
gratuity:
New Hope, PA & Ivyland Railroad:
Our day, Friday, October 17, 2003, begins at the Visitors Center of a
charming little village that conjures up visions of a by-gone era, where
our bus will drop us off for two hours of on-your-own sightseeing and
shopping. With so many attractions to see and do, the list is
endless. There are art galleries, historic sites, and of course,
shopping. New Hope is a shopper's paradise with over 100 shops,
offering local crafts, as well as beautiful items from around the world.
Arrive at noon at Chez Odette's, one of the area's most historic sites
along the Delaware Canal system, and probably the best-known restaurant in
New Hope. Our three-course luncheon will include salad, dessert,
coffee/tea, all taxes and gratuities and a choice of: Roast Salmon with
dill beurre blanc OR Roast Turkey with herbed bread stuffing and pan
gravy. Later, climb aboard New Hope & Ivyland's passenger train
and leave your cares behind as you travel aboard our restored passenger
cars and experience the "Golden Steam Era." The New Hope
& Ivyland Railroad is one of the only Steam Railroads in the country
that allows people the rare opportunity to ride aboard the locomotive
while it's pulling a train. Board a vintage 1920's steam engine at
New Hope's 100-year-old train depot, and see the beautiful and historic
countryside of Bucks County the old-fashion way. (1 hour ride)
PRICE: $46 per person, space is limited. DEPARTURE: 8
am, RETURN: 5 pm.
Medieval Times:
Experience the adventure and romance of the Middle Ages at Medieval Times
(located in Lyndhurst, NJ) on Thursday, November 13, 2003. From the
moment you enter our 11th century, climate-controlled Castle, you will be
treated like the noblest lord or lady of the realm. Fanfare
trumpeteers herald the service of a royal feast - a delicious four-course
dinner (meal is chicken; vegetarian and kosher meals also available),
including beverages - served in the traditional manner by lovely wenches
and eaten with NO utencils (only your hands!). Then, sit back and
enjoy as valiant Knights on horseback prepare for their centuries old
Tournament of Games. In your honor, they compete at breathtaking
speed in daring feats of skill and jousting. Cheer them on to victory as
they bravely fight to the finish with swords and weapons! PRICE:
$40 per person, money due in by October 2, 2003. DEPART: 10:00
am, RETURN: 2:00 pm.
