Recent Alcohol and Drug
Related Arrests
Like most of America, a high percentage of Fair Lawn's
police activity is related to drug use.
(See recent drug and alcohol
related arrests, below).
Fair Lawn Sgt. Robert Boyle says that "drugs and alcohol
are certainly related to other types of crimes.
People steal to support their habits and other people commit
offenses such as assault and DWI due to impaired judgment from being under
the influence of alcohol or some other drug.
A veteran Corrections Officer recently
told Boyle that "about 80% of the Bergen County Jail inmates were there for
crimes, either directly or indirectly related to substance abuse."
Boyle says that Fair Lawn Police
arrest many non-residents for drug or alcohol related crimes "because
we have two major highways going through town and are within minutes of
several others."
