Former
Fair Lawn Mayor Ed Trawinski and Bergen County Freeholder Lou Tedesco -
recently nominated as Republican Candidates for Assembly in central
Bergen's District 38,--
say their campaign will focus on solutions to New Jersey's mounting
ethical and economic problems.
"We
are honored to be nominated by the District 38 Republican committee and we
will take our responsibility to represent the GOP very seriously,"
said Trawinski.
"It's
clear to everyone that Gov. McGreevey and the Democrat Party have New
Jersey headed in the wrong direction on a whole host of issues and we plan
to engage the Democrats in a dialogue on who has the best plan for New
Jersey's future." he added.
Tedesco
said McGreevey and the Bergen County Democrats are mired in controversies
arising from unrestrained patronage and an unprecedented money grab.
"The
Democrat Party from the top down is concerned only with power and money
and not with solving the problems confronting this state." said
Tedesco. "The Democrats
are preoccupied with giving high paying jobs to their friends and shaking
down contributors for money. That's why they can't find the time to deal
with the issues that matter to working people such as auto insurance,
medical malpractice insurance and property taxes."
Trawinski
and Tedesco point out that McGreevey and the Democrats have gone from one
crisis to another in the past 15 months, showing no ability to lead.
"There
are almost 500,000 families losing their NJ SAVER rebate this year, yet
Gov. McGreevey is preoccupied with overcoming embarrassing scandals
involving his appointees and raising money for his party. No wonder
property taxes are going through the roof," said Trawinski.
"The
people of Bergen County need property tax relief and we will fight to
bring back a greater share of the nearly $1 billion a year Bergen
residents send to Trenton," said Tedesco.
On
other issues, Trawinksi and Tedesco say they
oppose the governor's plan to tax individuals and companies to fund
a pool to pay for medical malpractice lawsuit claims and they vow to bring
"sanity" back to auto insurance.
"New
Jersey must put the consumers first when it comes to health care.
Taxing policy holders to pay for lawsuit claims - as the Democrat
leadership wants to do -- is an invitation to create more litigation and
higher costs for everyone," says Trawinksi.
Car
insurance, says Tedesco, has to be dealt with in a similar manner.
"New Jersey's car insurance program serves only the special interests
who McGreevey is beholden to. It's time we had a sane car insurance plan
that servers the interests of the consumers."
On
a matter closer to home, Trawinski and Tedesco say they will fight to make
sure that the massive redevelopment of the meadowlands – the Xanadu
project by Mills-Mack-Cali, can be shaped to benefit Bergen County.
Of
particular concern for Tedesco is to have a mass transit and highway
improvement plan in place and flooding and environmental issues
addressed before contracts are signed between the state and Mills.
"We don't need more traffic jams in Bergen," says Tedesco.
Trawinski
said besides the traffic generated by Xanadu, he is concerned that Bergen
taxpayers get their fair share of the tax revenue generated by the
redevelopment in the meadowlands.
"Before
any contracts are signed, before a shovel ever touches the ground, there
has to be a tax sharing plan in place that benefits the people of Bergen
County and I mean the entire county," says Trawinski.
The
38th District comprises the following municipalities: Cliffside Park
Borough, Edgewater Borough, Elmwood Park Borough, Fair Lawn Borough, Fort
Lee Borough, Hasbrouck Heights Borough, Little Ferry Borough, Lodi
