Subways in Fair Lawn

On the same night, recently, Fair Lawn's Planning Board approved two applications to open up Subway restaurants. The applicants were both surprised to see that another Subway was opening up in town. One is opening on Broadway, the other on Maple Avenue.

Fair Lawn News checked in with Subway's headquarters to find out why Fair Lawn was now going to have three Subways. (There is one on Fair Lawn Avenue, already).

Yogesh Dave who helps choose New Jersey locations for Subway franchisees said he didn't expect the stores to compete with each other. He said it was the "demographics of Fair Lawn" that made them choose to open two new stores. "Route 4 gets a lot of day-time traffic from other towns going between Paterson and New York". He said Subway looks at "demography, population density, income level, and traffic counts".

Yogesh Dave said there are now 18,200 Subway stores in the U.S., even more than McDonalds. Generally, he said, about ½ the customers eat in the store and the other ½ take out their food.
