DISCOVER
SINATRA
You are in for a groovy time with INSIDE stories
about Frank Sinatra and his friends - hear his songs and the stories
behind them. Come hear about
the Frank Sinatra you, perhaps, never knew and discover the ROLE MODEL in
the man. Fly with Mel Glazer,
multi-charted songwriter and college instructor of songwriting, as he
propels you through the highs and lows, the laughter and the tears of the
greatest popular singer in the universe.
You'll feel his passion and taste his courage during this exciting
and unique, 1 1/2 hour presentation that allows us to view Frank Sinatra
from a fun filled and altogether fresh perspective.
Immediately following Mel Glazer's informational
show, treat yourself to an immensely enjoyable 1 hour medley of Sinatra's
well-known hits, sung by Jason Nazzaro.
Jason has been singing the songs of Frank Sinatra for over five
years. With thousands of
hours of rehearsal, he has committed nearly 200 of the most popular songs
to memory. This event is
planned for Friday, April 4th, 2003 and show begins promptly at 12:30 am.
Price is $4 per person (60 +), $5 all others; participants must pay
when signing up because seating is limited.
POISON PREVENTION
The Fair Lawn Senior
Center, in conjunction with The New Jersey Poison Information and
Education System, will present a “Poison Prevention” program focused
on the adult community. This
informational lecture will be hosted at the Center on Thursday, April 24th,
2003 at 11:00 am. Participants
will learn common poisons in the home and how to handle them; discover how
unintentional poisonings may occur and how to prevent them; and find out
how to protect your family, pets and yourselves.
This lecture is free and open to the public; refreshments will be
served. The organization
requires a minimum of 30 participants; please sign up in advance by
calling the Senior Center at 201-796-1191.
DISCOVER
SHERLOCK HOLMES
Spend “An Afternoon with Sherlock Holmes” as Ted
Friedman, a retired marketing professor and member of the Baker Street
Irregulars (an international Sherlockian honorary society) will present an
interesting program about the great English detective, SHERLOCK HOLMES.
At 12:30 pm on Thursday, May 8th, 2003, an overview will take place
of Mr. Holmes, why he is such an important figure and an examination of
the scholarship behind Sherlockian writings.
Mr. Friedman will also show many items, collectibles, and
memorabilia to illustrate various subjects.
There are more than 300 societies devoted to Sherlock
Holmes, but none is more prestigious or mysterious than B.S.I.
Aside from having a "BSI" degree, Mr. Friedman holds a
B.S. degree from Rider University and M.B.A. degree from N.Y.U..
As fitting an afternoon such as this, a Sherlock Holmes movie will
be shown after the discussion at about 1:30 pm and refreshments will be
served. This program is free
and open to the public.
CELEBRATE
SENIOR CENTER WEEK
National Senior Center Week, May 11-17, 2003 is an
annual celebration of the mission of senior centers - and a time to
promote the value senior centers bring.
Though changing with the times to better serve the varying needs of
new generations of older adults, the very foundation of senior centers is
to enhance the quality of life of older adults and their families by
providing or referring to a broad spectrum of services.
Many Senior Centers began as "Nutritional
Centers" federally mandated by the 1965 Older Americans Act.
The first Senior Center was founded 60 years ago; now there are an
estimated 10,000 to 15,000 senior centers nationwide.
This fast network of senior centers serves millions of older adults
and yet the variety of services provided through senior centers is not
well known.
This year for National Senior Center Week, the Fair
Lawn Senior Center invites policymakers, the business community, and the
community at large to visit our Senior Center and learn about our
services. The Center is
conveniently located at the corner of 11th Street and Gardiner
Road. Spread the word! Senior centers add more to life, and that's something to
celebrate!
