Bob Gordon's Turn   Fair Lawn News asked Bob Gordon to tell us why he is running for Assembly.  This is what he said:   "If there is a common thread to my career, it has been a desire to have a positive impact on the institutions that affect people’s lives. That was the motivation that led me to run for Mayor of Fair Lawn, to work as a hospital consultant, and more recently, to establish a firm that helps communities improve their emergency preparedness.    I see the upcoming Assembly race as another opportunity to contribute to my community. The legislature makes decisions that have a critical impact on the quality of life in Fair Lawn and the entire state. The votes cast in the Assembly affect the property taxes we pay, the cost of auto insurance, the availability of healthcare, the quality of our air and water, and the congestion on our roads, among other things. Impending debates on choice and gun control will be particularly important (I’m pro-choice and support strong gun controls). Similarly, the decisions regarding Meadowlands redevelopment will impact transportation, environmental quality and local economies for years to come.    I believe I have the skills to properly shape those decisions. I have worked at every level of government, know our area intimately and understand how to weigh policy choices. Most importantly, as many of you will remember, I make an effort to listen. I hope you will allow me to serve you once again."     Click 'Search' below, to find all the references to Bob Gordon in Fair Lawn News.      Bob Gordon's Biography Bob Gordon has worked as a policy-maker in government at all levels, and has extensive experience in management consulting for corporate and non-profit clients. He has been: · Mayor of Fair Lawn, New Jersey for three terms, where he established an office of emergency management, authored legislation requiring public safety impact analyses of real estate projects and improved the capital budgeting process for emergency services · A Fair Lawn councilman for ten years, a fire commissioner for ten years and a member of the planning board for eight years · Assistant to the Governor of New Jersey · An analyst in environmental policy in the Executive Office of the President and in the Congressional Budget Office His private sector experience includes 10 years at major consulting firms such as Computer Sciences Corporation and A.T. Kearney, where he managed consulting projects and advised clients on strategy and operations. He is the author of Governing New Jersey, a book describing the key agencies in the state. Bob earned an MBA in finance from Wharton, a Master of Public Policy degree from Berkeley, and was Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude at Williams College. He is a Fellow of the Leadership New Jersey Program.
