PEDESTRIAN
SAFETY FOR SENIORS
The
Bergen County Office of Highway Safety received a grant from the New
Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety to fund the production of a
video and corresponding teaching guide. The program was a cooperative
effort between the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, the Bergen
County Police Traffic Officers Association and Hackensack University
Medical Center's Trauma Services Unit. In
conjunction with our local police department, we will present
"Autumn," a docudrama devoted to senior pedestrian safety on
Thursday, October 17, 2002 at 11:00 am. FLPD Officer Tim Franco will
discuss the story about two couples who have been friends since childhood
and the events that impact that friendship, as well as the impact of
pedestrian safety in the adult community.
COPING
ISSUES DISCUSSED
The
Senior Center will present a free workshop entitled, "Coping with a
Loved One's Illness" on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 11:00 am. A
social worker from CancerCare in Ridgewood will discuss normal reactions
to a loved one's illness, how to cope with the illness and the stress it
places on those close to the person with the illness. It will include a
discussion of communicating with the person as well as suggestions on how
to cope more effectively. This workshop had been postponed from August.
VEIN
DISEASE DISCUSSED
Many
people think that varicose veins and spider veins are the only symptoms of
vein disease. Beginning signs of vein disease can also be detected by
achy, itchy, heavy or cramping legs, as well as dilated veins, skin
discoloration, swelling or ulcers around the ankles. "Vein
Disease," a lecture to discuss this topic in-depth is intended for
Thursday, October 24th, 2002 at 1:00 pm. Vein disease is a serious ailment
that will likely get worse if left untreated. Spend a few moments with a
vascular expert discussing concerns and possible treatment options for
one's needs, including the latest minimally invasive treatments.
