June - July 2002 Edition 

Council Race   Two candidates hoping to fill an open Fair Lawn Borough Council seat in November.  Both the Democrat and Republican candidates are accountants and they both moved to Fair Lawn to raise their children.     After Sheri Adler resigned her Council position last year (see article from the archives), the Council appointed Steve Weinstein to fill her term through the end of 2002.  The winner of the November election will sit on the Council until the end of Adler's four year term, the end of 2003.      Howard Hyde, 34 years old, grew up in South Jersey and has 2 children.  He is a Manager at The Videre Group, LLP in Parsippany.  Steve Weinstein, 45 years old, grew up in Brooklyn and has 3 children.  He is a partner at Weinstein & Weinstein in Teaneck.    His campaign materials say "I believe that my 12-plus years in the accounting industry give me the financial experience necessary to give the community an opportunity to get the maximum value at the minimum cost from our municipality.  Over the last four years I have seen a steady decline in public service with an ever-increasing cost and it is my goal to reverse this trend.  With your help, we can provide an open participatory, coalition government.”   His campaign materials say  "He brings to the Council a strong business background and a record of community service.  He has been a successful CPA for over 20 years as a Partner of Weinstein & Weinstein accounting firm.
