Fair Lawn Response   Fair Lawn residents collecting goods at Borough Hall.    Fair Lawn residents helped out in two ways after the September 11th attack:  At the Scene and Collecting Materials.      At the Scene:  On September 11th, dozens of Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue workers, Hazardous Material workers, Emergency Medical Technicians and fire fighters rushed to Lower Manhattan to help rescue victims after the terrorist attack.  Ambulance corps members and fire department personnel helped at the Liberty State Park Triage Center and other volunteers provided assistance at the County’s Task Force Center in Teaneck.     Mayor Ganz said that "we are grateful for the sacrifice that each of the volunteers gave, of their time, their effort, and their disregard for their personal circumstances and safety."   Collecting Materials:  When the Borough of Fair Lawn asked for some help collecting materials to send to the rescue workers at the World Trade Center, they were astonished to get over 200 volunteers and truck loads of materials.    The Office of Emergency Management Director, Tom Metzler, said that it was an "unbelievable outpouring of support.  Their valuable assistance and contributions was important and it also gave residents an opportunity to help out and participate."  Fair Lawn residents donated thousands of socks, t-shirts, gloves, flashlights, buckets and dust masks.  The residents also donated a huge amount of food for the rescue workers and even food and little booties for the canine workers.   Many of the materials collected at Borough Hall were personalized with messages like 'Keep The Faith and 'God Bless America'.  On one box of shirts, a grateful resident had written, ‘These are extra large to match your hearts’.     What Do You Think?: Send an e- mail to editor@fairlawnnews.com or post a message on the Fair Lawn News Discussion Forum.
