October-November 2001 Edition

Reacting To Terrorism   by Lloyd Dorfman   I don’t know what to write.  Specifically, my creativity has been overshadowed by terrorism. It’s another effect that recent events have had that invade so many parts of our lives. I don’t know that we will ever be able to understand all that has been effected by these events and we’ll just have to live our lives and expect that at different moments, for the rest of our existence, we will be reminded of how tenuous life is.   What I do know and, what WE can control is the way we conduct our own selves. It is so hard to be fair in a world that is so un-fair. It’s hard to not react even when all of our best logic tells us to be rational. I am such a victim of my own emotions lately that I have forgotten that others have them as well. This is the toughest thing about being human and sometimes I’m envious of the animal kingdom who’s life is more defined.   We are tested and luckily for me, my tests recently have been administered by my four year old son Jesse. Jesse: “Daddy, why did that plane crash into that building?” Daddy: “Because some bad men wanted to hurt people” Jesse: “But why would they do that?” Daddy: “Because they think we are bad” Jesse: “Will they get a time out?” Jesse: “Maybe they were just bad drivers”   Terrorism, can you see the effects? It takes lives and invades the way we develop new ones.   Terrorism, it destroys international relations and re-establishes them as well. “We will re-evaluate our relationships with other countries by their response to these events” Colin Powell   I hope the other countries want to re-establish these relationships because of common ideologies and not just because they are running and ducking for cover.   In our own small town here that is “HOME”, we should be able to collectively and positively create what is right even with the difference of opinions. It really is that easy.   Work with what we have available to us and pitch in without bitchin’.  I don’t want to be thought of as a local terrorist, do you?   It’s 4:00 AM and I am attaching some photos I took today.
