Deputy Mayor Resigns

Sheri Adler had quite a week.

Adler's 28 year old son married a "wonderful young woman" on September 9th, the World Trade Center was attacked on September 11th, and she resigned her Deputy Mayor position on September 13th.

Keith Brown, the Ellington Road resident who publicized Ms. Adler's $14,000 arrears in real estate taxes, told Fair Lawn News that "an elected official should be held to a higher standard (or at least the same standard) as every other resident. If every resident didn't pay their taxes, the town would come to a standstill."

Adler said that she didn't want her failure to pay taxes to hurt her family or take over the upcoming campaign. It was hard, she said, "for my husband and children to read about this. Also, I did not want to negatively effect Mayor Ganz's re-election to the Council. He has been really wonderful for the town. "

After apologizing to residents and her fellow Council members, she said she would catch up on her tax payments by the end of the year.

She told Fair Lawn News "my resignation was insignificant in the scheme of things." She feels blessed to have attended her son's wedding. Twenty years ago, he had been in a car hit by a drunken driver 20 years ago and had gone into a coma. "That and my emergency open heart surgery, everything else pales in comparison".

She still plans on staying involved with the Chamber and River Road Improvement Corporation, and will continue writing articles for Fair Lawn News. (See her current article.)
