Shopping
Tips
The Senior Center will be hosting Janet Brancato, Nutritionist with Valley Health
Affiliates for “Reading Food Labels: Shopping Tips” on
Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 1:00 pm. Learn what food labels mean
when it says: "low-fat," "fat-free," "1/3
less fat," "low sodium," "sodium-free," "low
calorie," "calorie-free," "low cholesterol," and
"cholesterol free."
Discussion will also focus on serving sizes on labels,
comparing products and trying new foods, trying new recipes and altering
old ones to enhance nutrient intake and food shopping strategies to
increase nutritious meal planning and healthier foods. There will be
a question and answer period to talk about how to make wise choices using
the information discussed. This program is FREE & OPEN to the

Surrogate Court Speaker
On Thursday, September 6th, 2001 Surrogate Court Judge Michael R. Dressler
will be speaking at the Fair Lawn Senior Center. His duties include
overseeing, interpreting and enforcing all laws, rules and regulations
governing the Surrogate Court and will be speaking about: the
importance of wills, probate procedures, powers of attorney, issuance of
guardianships, administration of estates, estate tax consequences, and
much more! This program is free and open to the public and there
will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Feel free to call

Seniors Say It With Flowers
Once again, the Fair Lawn Senior Center is excited to host Gloria Einhorn,
Creative Floral Designer, at the Center on 12:30 pm Thursday, September
13th, 2001. With participation and demonstration, Gloria will create
beautiful and inventive arrangements of flowers with everyday items such
as pasta and bread while incorporating autumn themes.
Ms. Gloria Einhorn has thirty-four years of experience
as a professional floral designer and instructor. She specializes in
centerpieces for special occasions and interior design with plants and
flowers. This activity is free and open to public, however the
Center asks everyone to sign up by stopping in at 11-05 Gardiner Road (on
the corner of 11th Street) or calling the Center at (201) 796-1191.
Seniors Travel In Style
The
Senior Center is planning exciting new trips for the 2001-2001 season.
For each of these trips, a slide show will be held for the
opportunity to view highlights of the trips being planned.
First,
a 6-day “Christmas Tour of Branson,”
planned for early December 2001, will be first on the agenda.
The trip includes holiday performances by the Osmond Family, Shoji
Tabuchi, the Radio City Rockettes in their Christmas Spectacular, and a
visit to Silver Dollar City, where there will also be a variety of
Yuletide shows. No one will want to miss a breathtaking view from atop the
St. Louis Gateway Arch, and a fun-filled ride on the Army Ducks.
The cost of this trip, including airfare, hotels, 10 meals, shows,
tours, and gratuities is $1160 per person (double occupancy).
Two
beautiful trips are also planned for the year 2002.
In April 2002, a spectacular 8-day trip to London and Paris is
offered to visit places such as Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Big
Ben; two London Theater performances; a ride on the Eurostar Train to
Paris; dinner atop the Eiffel Tower; a cruise on the Seine River; and a
Parisian cabaret dinner show. The
price of this trip is $2,214 per person (double occupancy) and includes
airfare, hotels, 10 meals, tours and shows.
A
13-day land and cruise trip through Alaska is planned for early August of
2002. Highlights of this trip
include a city tour of Vancouver, BC; a 7-night cruise through the Inside
Passage of Alaska; stops and sightseeing in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway;
cruising through the longest tidewater glacier in North America, Hubbard
Glacier; stopping in Valdez, considered the “Switzerland of Alaska;”
cruising through College Fijord, home to several glaciers named for East
Coast Universities; a stop and tour of Anchorage and Denali National Park.
The trip concludes in Fairbanks.
The price of this trip, including airfare, train fares, cruise
fare, 26 meals, hotels, etc. will be $3,609 per person (double
occupancy).
