Letters About Fair Lawn Business

Wanted:  Fresh Faces!  New Ideas!

The Fair Lawn Economic Development Committee would like to enlarge its membership and is looking for people who have a positive outlook when it comes to finding ways to improve our commercial areas.  Business people, homeowners, everyone is welcome.

We are currently getting working on producing a Handyguide map for the town and will be busy working on that for the next two months. Therefore, when we begin to meet again on October 17th, you are welcome to join us. If you are interested please call 794-5310 and give your name to Helena Davin in the Borough Manager's Office.

Deputy Mayor Sheri Adler

Blue Laws

It now seems foolish to observe the Sunday Blue Laws as so many Businesses are ignoring it without being penalized. Let Paramus go it's own way. I prefer Sunday closings except for restaurants, food stores and emergency services but we must be practical and look at the world the way it is and not the way we might prefer.

Hard For Seniors

Sadly, the Senior Citizens of Radburn area are left without any Supermarket.  To have a couple of Shop Rite grocery departments in place of Grand Union would be much more beneficial. Who, however, cares about common sense nowadays. We will have the third pharmacy on this plaza. The battle between 2 giant drug stores may temporarily improve the service. However, it will mean an end to the little pharmacy on the corner of Plaza Road and High Street.

Boris Livshits, M.D.

Disappointed

I'm disappointed to see that yet another drug chain will be opening up In Fair Lawn. If we cannot have a grocery store in the former Grand Union building, why can't the space be broken up into smaller units for shops such as Starbucks? The location , since it is adjacent to the train station, could be perfect for commuters to pick up essentials before heading home.  With attractive storefronts, appropriate landscaping, and innovative use of the space this complex could be a real winner for Fair Lawn. Eckerds will be unnecessary competition for Strehl's and CVS, it will be an unattractive addition to an already congested corner. What a shame.

Too Bad

Too bad we can't get a Quick Chek, 7 Eleven or WaWa. That kind of store would do a booming business in town, enabling people to pick up staples that they run out of at the last minute or to pick up a meal or sandwich on the way home from work. We certainly don't need another drug store and having two major chains across from each other (plus Strehl's) is laughable, given the thriving downtown mix in other communities like neighboring Glen Rock.

Radburn Building

The owners of the Radburn Building are to be commended for the excellent improvements made to the building. I pass it daily and am impressed with the work done so far.

Home Depot

I thank you for helping to inform Fair Lawn residents regarding the pending construction of a Home Depot in Paterson. Residents must be forewarned about such destructive development in the area. Considering the immense traffic and environmental dangers posed by these megastores, every effort must be made to prevent their construction.

Aaron
